NHRC celebrates 125 years

Dressing up in a flash frock or slick suit has always been a huge part of a day at the races.

So to celebrate its 125th anniversary the Nelson Harness Racing Club is encouraging people to dress up in fashion from the past 125 years of horse racing.

The club's summer races weekend begins at the Richmond Park Showgrounds on Friday.

Black Sticks captain Anita Punt is the ambassador for the Nelson Harness Racing Club's 125th anniversary.

The club is hosting VIP Friday and is inviting race-goers to join the Stoke Beer/Rochdale Cider Marquee wearing their best get-up from the past 125 years of racing history.

The popular Fashion in the Field event is scheduled for Sunday and the club will hold an anniversary dinner on Saturday night at $70 a head.

Black Sticks captain Anita Punt, whose family has a long involvement with racing and the club, is the ambassador for the 125th anniversary. She will be back in Nelson from her Auckland base for the event. Punt is due to take part in a Q&A session at the dinner, undertake signings with children and judge the Best Hat and Fashion in the Field competitions.
