Hats on show at the Nelson summer races

More than a dozen ladies donned fascinators and hats among rain showers at the Richmond Park Racecourse as part of the Nelson Harness Club's summer festival.

It might not have offered much shelter from the rain, but the hat deemed the best on the field was a white and red ribbon fascinator.

Angela Miller won the best hat competition, judged by Black Sticks captain Anita Punt and Vanessa Griffin of Profile Eventwear Specialists, with the fascinator she made herself.

Miller, who is a graphic designer, also made her 1950's style dress out of a fabric with red poppies.

No stranger to fashionable events, she came second in the hat competition last year and has made another dress for Fashion in the Field this Sunday.
